Apparently English is a second language here in The U. S. of A.
We went to Wendy's today for lunch and this was what greeted us as the tray liner. I had to look at it for a few seconds and then I said to myself "Why can't I read this?"
It's nice to know what Wendy's is all about isn't it?

That is sad. Really sad. Yet, becoming more and more acceptable.

I know it's very unpolitically correct of me to think this, but I really don't like it when I go to Lowe's or Sears and all the signs are bilingual. It just drives me insane, and I grew up close enough to the N.Y.-Quebec border to see my share of English/French bilingual signs. Ironically, they don't bother me.
Here we have a rather large Bosnian refugee population, so you can be standing in produce at one of the grocery stores and hear the same announcement in English, then Spanish, then Bosnian! I don't shop there anymore.

Here's another perspective...
There are four official languages in Switzerland: German, French, Italian, and Rumantsch (only spoken by about 40,000 people). Let me tell you, I'm happy when I see stuff written in English because it saves me A LOT of time. As a matter of fact, there have been many businesses/people here in Basel who have earned my business specifically because they have made an effort to speak to me in English. As far as I'm concerned, the tray liners in another language are a good business move; a few people might not like it, but MANY people will appreciate the effort.
The last I heard, a bunch of states in the U.S. had made English their official language, but English still is not the "official" language of the U.S.A. (there is none).
Let's cut those foreigners some slack...
We want them to come to the U.S. to fill the low-paying jobs that Americans won't do, and we also expect them to be bilingual when they get there? Not gonna happen...unless they've been very highly educated in their home country (often not the case with Mexicans who emigrate to the U.S.)! They'll learn English sooner or later.
By the way...studies show that most parents from Mexico speak to their U.S. born children in Spanish, but the children respond in English and can't often speak Spanish very well.
Well, the gringos did not qualify for the Copa América and the America's Cup was won by Switzerland. You're on the the down slope. Better learn other languages soon.
