Varla is fabulous

Why are drag queens always late?
Stupid bus made me miss steamworks for the feast of fools

Am I the only one who finds this funny?

On Friday's MSNBC will typically put up a 'quiz' to see who was paying attention to the news for the week.

This was the headline for this weeks 'quiz'

I would hope that the only one in the First Lady's Box would be President Obama, she doesn't come across as one of those types of girls.

wondering if the new head of the CTA - Richard Rodriguez - is also part of the family like Huberman? He's cute!

THANK YOU!!! I Won!

I can't believe that I won....I was astounded and surprised!

At the end of last year one of the local gay papers (Chicago Free Press) held their annual "Pressies Awards" where people could vote for their favorite gay whatever.....and you guys and gals voted me as favorite LGBT Blog!  Again, I'm flabbergasted!

I am flattered and honored to be on the same page as "Best Film: Milk" starring Sean Penn (who incidentally won a Best Actor Oscar for his portayl and ChicagoPride.com as "Best LGBT Website"

Thank you to everyone who voted, I really really do appreciate it!  I never would have thought that my little old blog would ever make a dent here in the blogosphere, but apparently it has!

The Expiration Date Game - ROUND 2

ROUND 2

So when do you think this delicious Safeway Select brand Stuffed Mashed Potatoes Au Gratin expired?

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Whew!

First off, I want to apologize to you....I feel like I've been neglecting my blog and it hasn't been my intention at all.

I was really waiting for winter to come so that I could sit back, relax and enjoy hibernating for the winter......boy was I wrong. This winter has been absolutely crazy, I've had such a great time and I'm afraid it's starting to show.

I've turned into a Facebooker.....last year I was complaining about how much I hated Facebook but I'm a convert. I've had such a great time on Facebook over the last year, I've connected with so many people it's amazing.

I've re-connected with friends from High School, old co-workers, friends that have moved away and even family members! It's a great way to stalk people and get stalked at the same time and it's easy to follow peoples online adventures.

I won't say that it's better than blogging.....because there's nothing like that, but it makes it easier to stay connected to people and find out what they're doing.

I still hate the applications on Facebook, because they promise you all of this fabulous stuff and then only screw you over in the end. But I do love posting pictures and videos and sharing silly meme's, here's my 25 Random Things, tagging people in pictures and just connecting with people.

But it's not just been Facebook.....I've been doing a lot of writing as the Chicago Gay Examiner, my friends Marc & Fausto have invited me on their show Feast of Fools a handful of times and I've been writing a weekly column for ChicagoPride.

I just turned 40 and I haven't even reached halfway up that hill yet, I don't know why everyone says it's downhill from here....I'm even more busy now and things aren't going to slow down.

My best friend and I have been planning a trip to Amsterdam and it's coming up in a few short weeks. We've been talking and planning this trip for more than a year and now we're in the final crush to get things pulled together. There's 6 of us going including the Ropey Old Bird and there's been rumor that perhaps Mr & Mrs Big Finn and Canadian Swiss & Orange X might make an appearance in Amsterdam.

We were trying to get to Paris to hopefully see Ms. Mac and Antipodese, but we don't think that we're going to be able to swing it....so close yet so far.....

So can anyone give me some tips on what to do when we're in Amsterdam?

The Expiration Date Game - ROUND 1 ANSWER

How close were you?

Dediated to those who were born between 1920-1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no child proof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.And we were OK.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all,no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chatrooms.......WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If  YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

I'm on the Feast of Fools again!

Will those boys at the Feast of Fools never learn their lesson?

Marc and Fausto the ever so lovely and gracious hosts of the Feast of Fools invited me back on their digitally delicious podcast to join in on some fabulous conversation with them as well as Keith Ecker (the Shirtless Vlogger) and Jamie Williamson a local bear organizer.

We had a fabulous time getting ready for the show (uhm mainly drinking a WHOLE lot of booze) and had an even more fabulous time sitting down and having a great conversation.

Take some time out of your day today and download the latest episode of the Feast of Fools.

And if you haven't done so already, you should head on over to iTunes and sign up to get the podcasts automatically by subscribing to the Feast of Fools

The Expiration Date Game - ROUND 1

I'm going to be moving office spaces tomorrow, which has had me boxing up all of my earthly office posessions. It's also had me going into some drawers that I haven't been in, in a while.

So can you tell me when this delicious Nile Spice Sweet Corn Chowder expired?

WTF? Where did the time go?

Yep, it's true....I'm 40 today...and I'm loving every minute of it.  Now I just need Miley Cyrus to come out with a new song!
