Cellphones & Flying

This past weekend I flew back to PA to visit with my family. I flew into the Allentown Airport (ABE) - it is such a small airport that the food court consists of a Subway sandwich shop and a bar - hey it's two places so that makes a "court"

My sister lives in Allentown so I flew in there instead of of Avoca (AVP) - now THAT is seriously a small airport, there's only three gates there and you get to walk out to the tarmac to get to your plane.

Come to think of it, I've been in a lot of small airports this year, AVP, ABE, SCE and GSP, actually it's sort of fun to take commuter jets (at least I think so) yeah they're noisy as hell but there's not a lot of people and the flights are usually pretty short.

Regardless, I flew home late Monday night and the flight was probably half full, and considering it there were only about 50 seats on the plane that wasn't a lot of people. But there was this annoying man sitting in the row in front of me opposite of where I was sitting (so I could see everything he was doing). When we were boarding in Allentown the flight attendant actually had to tell him to a) fasten his seat belt b) put away his computer and c) turn OFF his cellphone (only because he was yaking into it loudly after she had already announced that they had to be turned off).

When we landed the fucker actually turned on his cellphone before the wheels even touched the ground! What an annoying little fuck. Then he was on the phone again talking loudly screaming over the sound of the engines trying to slow us down!

Then when we actually got to the gate he jumped up as soon as the seat belt sign was off and rushed to the front of the plane (even though he was in row 9).....I actually got a little laugh though, as I was deplaning, he was still waiting for his suitcase! Oh yeah, and he was wearing a suit and tie and freaking sneakers?!? WTF is up with that? If you're gonna do the suit/tie thing why wear sneakers? It makes you look like a "RE" (Andi - you know what I mean).

So my question to you can you take an airplane ride that's less than 2 hours and be out of communication? What the heck did we all do before cellphones?

Whew - I'm done...I've got to go take a nap now!

Janet Jackson is messing up Network TV again!

Janet Jackson just released a new album (yeah for her) and she's been all over the TV making her marketing rounds....the only problem is that she is causing total havoc with the networks, everything is running late because they put her on a 20 minute delay!

Meerkat Manor

Have you seen Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet?

God, I love cable!

Almost a tornado

Wow Chicago had a tornado warning this evening!  That hardly ever happens in the big city.  We were so excited that it was coming our way as well, I mean how often do you get to be in the path of a tornado and for a change not be in a single-wide trailer!

It was the most bizarre thing really, I was sitting at the computer and all of a sudden it got pitch black outside and then the wind started blowing.  We have a fan in the window to help circulate the air and all of a sudden the fan stopped and started spinning the other way for a few seconds….even though it was still plugged in…then it stopped and went the normal way for a few seconds and did the same thing.  About this time I hear my roomie YELLING for me.

I go bounding up the stairs and look out on the patio, there are plants and chairs flying EVERYWHERE.

I’ve got a few big ficus trees and schefflera’s that I haven’t brought in the house yet because it’s still pretty nice outside, it was blowing so hard that we had to bring the plants in or be afraid that they would get blown away or broken in half.  I grabbed one of the trees and the wind picked up, it was moving so fast and it was back and forth, it was tres bizarre.

There was some good that came out of this…I got to practice a scene from The Wizard of Oz……no not the one you’re thinking about…..the one where the tornado is coming and Auntie Em is calling out for Dorothy….it was hilarious, here I am carrying a 5 foot plant screaming at the top of my lungs DOROTHY!!!!!  DOROTHY!!!!!!

But hey, we had a tornado go through!

Someone's praying for my soul

I've got a YouTube account and as you know I occasionally will post a video here and there.

Well back in February I posted a video of "Thanks" for my friend Olivia who sent me this fabulous care package. It's a really corny video and stupid, and I finally got a comment on it today!

The comment was from a user named: enlightenedbygrace4U and was:

Has anyone decided to send you a Bible? You are scary.Playing with those dolls.I'll be praying for you. Jesus loves you anyhow. But He hates the sin...Peace...

Isn't that fabulous, someone is worried about me playing with dolls and yeah, they're gonna send me a bible!

If you'd like to check out the really corny video check HERE

I hope to goodness she has a nickname

The shuttle Atlantis safely touched down earlier this week, after several space walks and nervous nelly's wondering if debris found outside the shuttle would impact it's return.

There was an article today on MSNBC about one of the astronauts who collapsed during the welcome home ceremony.

She was the 5th out of 6 astronauts to talk, I think she really just faked it so they could all go home. I mean really after 2 astronauts talking how much more could there be? And if she was the next to last to talk, did what she have to say really that important? I mean if it had been, wouldn't she have been the first to talk instead of next to last?

I know I shouldn't bitch, she's been in space and I haven't. I guess when I come home from my first space flight I'll want to talk about it too no matter how many people are in front of me.

But really, I hope this lady has a nickname because her name is:

Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper

Now isn't that a mouthful?

I'm such a neglectful parent

Thank goodness that I'm only raising a blog and not children, otherwise DCFS would be all over my ass!

I apologize for the lack of postings as of late but boy things have gotten so busy.

A few weeks ago we had the distinct pleasure of traveling to NE Ohio and seeing the Knapps and meeting the Wonderful Mac's.....hell after that trip it took me a week to recover!

Work has been so so so busy for a change, we had a person leave our team and I took over most of their responsibility (in addition to keeping my own tasks) so when I get home from work I'm totally drained.

Oh yeah and there was the move that happened at the beginning of the month. I would say that we're 95% in the house, there are only a few things left to do - one of them is to get the office area completed. There's been so many other things to do around the house that when I get home I don't always have the luxury of being able to sit down at the computer and surf like I used to (It's been ages since I've even been on YouTube, if you can believe that.)

I'm actually going home to NE PA this weekend to visit my family. A few months back we got some very bad news about my Uncle - he was diagnosed with Brain and Lung Cancer, he's been undergoing chemo treatments and has a long road ahead of himself. As you may recall, The Boyfriend and I were to travel home to NE PA back in June/July but because of storms we didn't make it, so I decided this weekend I'm going.

I'm going to see my uncle, my parents and my sister and maybe visit The Fair, I promise to take lots of pictures and will post when I get back.

Next month we're hosting Movie Night at the new house and also having our House Warming Party/Halloween Party, so if you're in the Chicago area or going to be in the Chicagoland area let me know and you can stop by and party with us.

While we were there we created this great new drinking game - The Self Portrait Game.

Where were you?

When I was growing up I always remember my parents and their friends saying "Oh I remember exactly what I was doing when Kennedy was killed."

I always found that intriguing and interesting, but never thought that I would have one of those moments in my life.

I remember where I was on the day of the Oklahoma Bombings - I was driving to work and heard it on the radio.

I remember where I was when the World Trade Center was destroyed on September 11, 2001 - I was sitting in my bosses office in a meeting when his partner called and said "a plane hit the WTC." He said "oh, ok" and hung up the phone, we spoke for a few minutes and speculated that it must have been a small commuter plane, it was nothing to worry about. Soon after the phone rang again, but this time we heard "Another plane hit the WTC? Yeah, ok, whatever. You know what, I'm in a meeting I'm going to have to call you back in a little bit." He hung up the phone and we had a little laugh because we figured it was obviously a prank....not 30 seconds later one of our employees knocked on the door and said "Hey, the internet is acting really strang, I can't get anywhere...every page is timing out...oh yeah and someone said that a plane hit the WTC."

Suddenly our world was changed.....forever.

Where were you?

Something HUGE happened

OMG, you're never going to believe what happened. (I'm just like a 12 year old girl aren't I?)

More to come but perhaps this may be a bit of a hint

I'm almost back

Hello Out There (hears a big echo many times over)

Well, I'm partially back.....not completely but partially. The move happened - all I kept saying to myself was "how did I have all of this crap in a one bedroom apartment?"

The only thing left to "set up" in the house is the office area and the kitchen cupboards. Right now things in the kitchen are slung every which way and it's a big scavenger hunt to find what we need. The Office (which includes my computer) is still in boxes - I may tackle that this evening.

Work has been especially hectic, one of my team mates moved to a different position and I took over about 75% of their responsibility (and still kept my own) so I've been going crazy trying to keep my head above water.

I started with my "seasonal allergies" yesterday on top of it all, if you have them you know how much fun they can be.

I can give you this piece of advice - pseudophede and coffee don't really work that well together, one puts you down and the other hypes you up, I'm sort of tingling all over (which isn't a bad thing - just a little freaky).

I promise things will be back to normal soon and I'll be as snarky as evah!
