When I was applying to colleges, this one group came out to our house to meet me and my family.
We were going through the application process when the lady asked "Do you have any nicknames?" Well since I'm Michael of course there's Mike, Mikey, Mickey, etc. and I said "No, I prefer Michael."
At which point she starts in on this story, "Oh it's so funny, we were at this student's house the other day and his nickname was Buckwheat, and he wasn't even black."
Well of course my parents and I started howling, because that's my nickname, but for a totally different reason.
She was so embarassed, I bet she never told that story again. But I tell it all the time.
