A Weekend of Technology!

Ah, the joys of being Gay and not having crumbsnatchers running around asking for toys and food, it's great! It means I get to spend all of my money on me and the gadgets that make my life exciting!

This past weekend I stopped at my local Best Buy to puruse their collection of Cell Phones. My contract with the heinous corporation that is called Cingular had recently expired and it was time for me to get a new cell phone AND a new cell provider. Cingular isn't really that bad (yes it is) I used to drop calls all the time and I could only barely receive reception at my house. The only place where I could reliably get a signal was in my bedroom (which is not bad if you're having phone sex) or in the bathroom - conveniently there is a seat there, but who wants to talk while sitting on the throne?

On top of all that I had killed my Razr about 3 months ago - it deserved to die, it was THE WORST phone evah, and I had purchased a "replacement" phone on Craigslist because there was no way I was getting suckered into extending my contract with Craptacular.

After I entered the store I circled the Cell Phone area a few times. I didn't want the guy manning the area to know exactly what I was doing so I would look at two phones and then run over and look at a movie, then swoop back in and look at a few more phones, then run over to the cameras and I finally sat down in the "video game area" pulled out my binoculars and looked at the rest of the phones from afar. Once I found a few phones I liked I approached the area with my hands in my pockets and whistling a tune so that it looked like I just "happened" upon the cell phone kiosk.

Of course the young man (at my age everyone is a young man) approached me and started firing questions at me: What was I looking for? Did I want to send Video Messages to my BFF's? Did I even know what TXT'ing was?

I, in turn, looked him straight in the eyes and gave him my list of demands:

- No Cingular - EVER (shouted just like Mommie Dearest, I might add)
- I wanted a cool phone
- No 2-year contract

Well wouldn't you know, the little bugger ended up getting me to sign a 2-year contract, but I also got a new carrier (Verizon - so now I get to call my parents for free) and a VERY cool phone. I got the new LG Chocolate 8550, music player, cameraphone, it does everything except pleasure me manually, but I think there's an add on for that at only $9.95 a month.

As I was standing there waiting for him to fill out the paperwork I looked at the impulse items that were sitting on a table, only they weren't impulse items. At first I had to take a second glance....were those Wii's sitting out there - in the open?

Holy Mother of God, it was....there were 5 Wii's sitting out there all by themselves. How could this bii? Wii's have notoriously been out of stock since before last Christmas, yet right here in front of me were sitting 5 of them. This was unimaginable!

I looked around to see if there was a line for these little Wii's and to my surprise there wasn't, there wasn't even a buzz that they were sitting there. There was nothing indicating that there were Wii's in the open and available for purchase, in fact it looked almost like a clearance table - thus the reason why there were still sitting there.

Being the sly person that I am, I quickly reached over, grabbed a Wii, an extra controller, an extra nun-chuck, an extra game and sashayed over to where Mr. Man was completing my cell phone contract.

I set the merchandise down and nonchalantly said "Oh, yeah, I'll take this too." You shoudl have seen his eyes when my bill went from just a measly $99 + tax all the way to a skyrocketing half a grand!

So now, I am the proud owner of a very cool and very exciting new phone but also the proud owner of a Wii!

The Wii is SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! Let me know when you're in the neighborhood and we'll have a Wii Championship, I think you'll love it as much as I do.

PSA: Dirty Murses and Purses

Since I carry a Murse and most of you out there carry a Purse I thought I would share this little ditty that my sister sent me. Most of the things sent via email are nothing more than scare tactics, I think, but this one really makes sense.

PURSES DON'T LET THEM KILL YOU

Who'd a thunk?

Have you ever noticed gals who sit their purses on public restroom floors - that go directly to their dining room tables?

Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes "what you don't know 'will' hurt you"!

Read on...Mom got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their purses down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up the buffet. She always said that purses are really dirty, because of where they have been. Smart Momma!!!

It's something just about every woman (and a lot of metrosexuals and gay boys) carries with them. While we may know what's inside our purses, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Shauna Lake put purses to the test - for bacteria - with surprising results.

You may think twice about where you put your purse.

Women carry purses everywhere; from the office to public restrooms to the floor of the car.
Most women won't be caught without their purses, but did you ever stop to think about where your purse goes during the day?

"I drive a school bus, so my purse has been on the floor of the bus alot," says one woman. "On the floor of my car, probably in restrooms." "I put my purse in grocery shopping carts, on the floor of bathroom stalls while changing a diaper," says another woman and of course in my home which should be clean."

We decided to find out if purses harbor a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake, then we set out to test the average woman's purse. Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their purse. Most said they usually set their purses on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared.

Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their purses were at least a little bit dirty. It turns out purses are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested
them was shocked. Microbiologist Amy Karren of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the purses tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the purses could make people very sick. In one sampling, four of five purses tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. "There is fecal contamination on the purses," says Amy.

Leather or vinyl purses tended to be cleaner than cloth purses, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier purses than those without, wi th one exception. The purse of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. Some type of feces, or even possibly vomit or something like that," says Amy.

So the moral of this story - your purse won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat.

Use hooks to hang your purse at home and in restrooms, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant tab le, or on your kitchen countertop. Experts say you should think of your purse the same way you would a pair of shoes. "If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your purse on the countertops" - your purse has gone where every individual before you has spat, coughed, urinated
emptied bowels, etc!

Do you really want to bring that home with you?

The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a purse will help. Wash cloth purses and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather purses.

THIS IS DEFINITELY WORTH SHARING!!!

Don't let your purse kill you!

He is such a Bitch!

The Roommate went out of town this weekend to participate in a softball tournament.

Me, being the lovely and gracious roommate that I am, begrudingly told the roommate that he would have to get a dog walker for his leg-licker of a dog. No, I didn't.

I was happy to watch the leg-licker, even though he ignores the fuck out of me all the time and doesn't even acknowledge my existence, but then I guess it works out well, because I don't acknowledge his existence either, well except for the golden colored tumbleweeds that are floating through our apartment.

It's always a very interesting experiement when The Roommate goes out of town, because I SWEAR that dog knows it, even before it's happening. The day before the vacation starts the dog suddenly looks at me and starts paying attention to me, following me around the house, like this one day of attention is going to change how I feel about him.

On the first day of the vacation The Dog refuses to walk further than a block from home and when we return he runs in the house thinking The Roomate is there ready to scream SURPRISE.

On Day Two The Dog realizes that "i'm IT" and proceeds to scratch at my door at 6:45am to tell me that if his real Dad was home he would have been out chasing squirrels already. He refuses to eat- well that is except for Milk Bone Treats and pieces of cheese studded with his allergy medicine , he'll still drink like he's going to be stranded in the desert but he stops eating He will walk further from home but still rushes back to check and see if a Surprise Party is going on.

Day Three it starts to sink in that he might actually be stuck with ME for the rest of his life. Suddenly he acknowledges me when I walk in a room - although barely, and he might nibble a bit of food just to keep his energy up, he finally poops on Day Three and boy is it a poop! He poops and runs which makes it difficult to capture his massive poop in the thin grocery bag wrapped around my hand - ugh!

By Day Four he is thoroghly convinced that The Roomate will never return and starts to pay attention to my by wagging his tail and eating all of the delicious food that I place in his bowl. By mid-afternoon The Roommate returns to a face full of kisses (from the dog, not me), growls, barks and noises indicating that he should never ever leave him again. The Dog now walks by me in the hallway and forces me to move out of his way.

I swear that Dog is such a bitch!

You wouldn't believe me if I told you

But I'm going to tell you anyway!

Guess who I met this week? Nope......ah no.....oh I wish..ok I'll tell you!

I got to meet another Blogger IRL, is that not amazing!

A few weeks back I got an email from The Big Finn that he and Mrs. TBF were going to be passing through Chicago and they wanted to meet up for dinner. I always get excited when people from foreign lands want to break bread with me, it makes me want to go out and read all of the Miss Manners books to make sure I'm acting properly, but then I forget about it and realize that they read this blog so it's not going to do any good.

We exchanged a few emails and text messages and confirmed up the place and time, a relatively new BBQ joint called Smoque that had recently been reviewed in the April issue of Gourmet Magazine (That's where TBF found it). I dutifly arrived just a few minutes late (thanks to lovely Chicago Traffic) and waited in line to place our orders.

It was BYOB but unfortunately I have a rule against drinking and driving, it's not that I can't drink and drive it's just that "I'm just a girl that cain't say no." and once I've started drinking, I've got to continue until someone passes out or throws up - whichever comes first! And TBF was stocked to the gills with a styrofoam cooler filled with exotic elixirs that included Chipotle Beer, German Beer, Wine and some Gnasty Smoked Beer (remember the last time you drank beer out of an ashtray? Well that's what it tasted like, honest.)

Mr. & Mrs. TBF brought along one of their college buddies and his adorable wife (who just happened to be a Vegetarian - yes we all got a good laugh out of that one).

As we were waiting in line Mrs. TBF said that she had a surprise, another Blogger was meeting us for dinner.....and not just any blogger but a blogger from across the pond. A blogger from Madrid!

Shortly after that announcement the door opened and in walked Sal DeTraglia once after I got over my excitment of being able to add another blogger to my "list of bloggers I've met in person" I quickly asked for his autograph and confirmed that he was a heterosexual - DAMN!!!!! Why are all the good ones straight?!?

Dinner was amazing, we sat next to a table of Chicago's Finest while we gnawed on bones from cows and pigs that gave up their lives willingly for us. We talked about "What is this blogging thing?" and "You mean you've met other people this way?" to the State of the Union and why the baked macaroni there was the best I have ever eaten (Please don't tell my Mom she would be rather upset because up until this time hers was the best ever).

The owner of the place came over and stole one of TBF's beers and brought us a tray of "Deep Fried Corn Bread" and was amazed that half of the table was from "over there." The food was amazing and I'll definitely go back and if you live in the Chicago area you should put it on your list!

Around 9:30 we decided to leave, only to find out that the place closed at 9:00 - I guess they were afraid to kick us out. We all said our goodbyes and I got in my car and headed back to my little city house!

I always love meeting Bloggers!

Time to walk in the grass again

I have to admit that there's nothing quite like it!

Gettin' Crafty with it!

I’m in a crafty sort of mood.

here are the rules:

It is simple. If you are one of the first three commentors on this post, then you are in. I send you a homemade gift sometime, er, soon. In return, you go to your blog and make the same offer. So, you’ll be making 3 things and receiving one.

Kim’s My list of useful FAQ’s

What if I don’t like my gift? - Too bad. Mom taught us all how to be gracious.

What if I’m not crafty or artistic? - So? Do it anyway. There are millions of things to be made and some part of you needs to get in to the process of creating something with your hands. It is therapeutic and eye opening. Even if it is a paper airplane. You could always do an artist trading card…they can be easy or hard, depending upon your effort.

What about shipping? - Like I said, an artist trading card? That might cost one stamp or less. But if you want to make a bust of the recipient out of pine, go ahead.

So are you up for it? I'm up for it...who's it gonna be?

I'd rather an inch worm

Than an itch mite!

This mornings lead news story was an outbreak of Itch Mites in the Chicagoland area, several hundred people have already been infected with these nasty little buggers.

The media is doing a great job of keeping these Itch Mites undercover and not revealing what they REALLY are - SCABIES!!!!

Have you ever had scabies? I did, about 20 years ago, I went to several doctors who had no idea what was going on, as I had these terrible itchy, oozy welts and sores all over my hands, in between my fingers and just causing general havoc, it was terrible.

Finally, I went to a local health clinic and the doctor looked at me and said "Oh you've got scabies" Fortunately it was able to be cleared up in about a week after that with some lotion and a round of antibiotics.

I never want to get scabies again, so I'm going to wrap myself in saran wrap until this "Itch Mite" scare is over!

Stardust - A Movie Review

You know I'm bad at giving movie reviews, so I'll leave that up to the professionals.

Friday night I went to see Stardust at our local cinema, well not local really because I had to take two trains and walk 4 blocks to get there and it's in a different area code, but local nonetheless.

I like going to the movies, I won't say I LOVE going to the movies, only because there are typically other people in the movie theater that ruin it for me when I'm immersed in the experience of watching a movie.

I knew it was opening night of the movie so I procured my ticket online via Fandango (have you used Fandango, it's fabulous) and planned on getting to the theater early to get my favored seat, four rows from the back directly in front of the seat that lines up with projector. It has to be four rows from the back because every other row in this theater has the "reclining" seats (think of how far airplane seats recline, you get the idea) and directly under the projector so you don't have to move your head from side-to-side to catch all of the action. I know, preferably I should be a few rows further south so that I can catch the "true surround sound" experience, but that means less to me so I don't care.

I got to the theater early, picked up my ticket (I don't do the 'print your ticket at home' stuff because I like to have my ticket [I know, I'm a freak]), purchased my medium bag of popcorn and smuggled my bottle of water and bag of M&M's into the theater. As I entered the theater I saw two queens were already in my preferred seats, obviously they didn't get my memo! So I was forced to sit two rows back (remember reclining seats). I had plenty of time to spare, so I pulled out my Entertainment Weekly and started reading (of course skipping over the reviews of the movie I was about to watch).

The Movie Theater is such a microcosm of society, don't you think? You've got the early adopters (like me that want the seat they want), you've got the noisy howler monkey children who don't understand the concept of a movie theater and parents who don't know how to discipline, you've got the talkers, the ones who constantly have to run to the snack bar.

The ones that kill me the most are those that arrive just as the previews start with their crew of 6 people on a sold out opening night and all want to sit together and then proceed to get upset when the only place where there are 6 seats together is in the front row - I just want to ask those people - "Did you JUST now decide to get 5 of your friends together and come to this movie? Didn't you plan at all?" But if I did that I'd face the potential of losing my own seat.

The other ones that kill me are the ones that come up and say "Oh could you please move so we can all sit together?" Uhm, no, it's not my fault you're a bad planner, I got here early so I could sit where I wanted to, you should try to do that next time.

Stardust was a really cute movie, if you enjoyed the Princess Bride then you'll enjoy this, its a fantasy/romance/comedy. Long story short - Boy likes Girl who is out of his reach, they live next to "magical land." King of Magical Land dies, 7 brothers vie for Kingdom by "catching" the fallen star which the king created right before he died. Boy tries to impress Girl by bringing back fallen star, instead falls in love with star all while trying to outrun brothers who are trying to take over the kingdom and a witch that wants to eat the star so she can remain young. Only to find out that his true love isn't who he thought it was to begin with.

My favorite part were the ghosts of the dead brothers, each one appears as they did when they died (one brother falls off a cliff so his face is smushed, another was in the bath so he's naked). Everytime someone would die and they were around they would "rate" how that person died.

There were a lot of knife fights and killings, but they almost never showed it on camera - so it's kid friendly in that respect, instead they let you imagine what it must have looked like.

Would I buy it? Yes

Yeah, that's all the review you get.

Missing: One Shoe

Missing: One Shoe

And a hiking boot to boot, it's not like it's a flip flop. I know where my flip flops are, I've been wearing the hell out of them this summer since I lost one of my boots.

I like flip flops.....I was never a "show your feet" kinda person but a few years ago that changed - who knows why. When I was a kid I never liked to show my underarms, so I never wore tank tops and when I had to play basketball in ninth grade I had to throw everything underhand!

If you'd like to find out about my alter ego "Sporty Mike", you should check out my sports podcast on Loopy Fruit, you can find the show HERE

But enough about my freakiness.

I've been wearing flip flops all summer and my feet are killing me. Well I guess my feet aren't killing me so much as my big toes are killing me from having to dig themselves into the flip flop so they don't fall off. I would say flip flops are as hard to wear for a guy as high heels. When you wear flip flops you're hanging on by your toes for dear life and when you're wearing heels your doing the only thing and hoping you don't fall on your ass. I guess at least with flip flops you don't have far to fall if you have a "blow out."

I like wearing flip flops but I always have a fear of losing one. And wouldn't you know it, I was at the grocery store the other day, wearing my flip flops and as I look at this cute guy, I misstep and walk completely out of my flip flop....I was suddenly just a flop and missing my flip! I was mortified.

I just grabbed my case of corona and handful of limes and walked to the cash register.

But more importantly, tell me. How did I lose a boot? I can't explain it, it was there one day and suddenly gone the next. I didn't throw it out in the trash, it's not under the bed, I don't know where the fuck it has gone. The dog hasn't eaten it and my parents didn't pack it up in their luggage (it was gone before they got here)

I'm keeping the one just in case the other one gets lonely and wants to come back or more so because I know as soon as I throw it out, the other one will suddenly appear.

I just hope some voodoo priestess doesn't have it!

What's the strangest thing that you've lost?

We always do it backwards

Millennium Park

Whew, it's been a crazy few weeks here in the Midwest.

Last week at this time I was bidding my family adieu as I dumped them off at the local airport and hoped that their flight wouldn't be cancelled.

No, seriously though - my whole family came for a visit, their first time ever in Chicago and the first time to visit me in the 7 years that I lived here.

Now before you go off - there's good reason. My parents are snowbirds and when I lived in Atlanta they would stop at my house at least twice a year. Unfortunately Chicago is not on the route to Florida and who in their right mind would come to Chicago in the winter. My parents run their own business and Summer is their busy time - but this year my Mom said that they were coming out to celebrate her birthday!

We had 4 super super super full days of excitement - if you've spent any time with me, you know that I love to play Julie McCoy. When I was asked what to bring for their trip, I kept repeating "Comfortable Walking Shoes".

Of course my sister didn't listen to me and instead of bringing trainers (a word I learned from Andrea) she brought these espadrilly shoe things that were uncomfortable for me to look at.

Let's just say that we walked ALL OVER Chicago. Here's just a highlight of what we did:
- Looked at Chicago from atop the Sears Tower Sky Deck
- Walked through numerous "lobbies" of high rises (to cool off)
- Tried to force our way into the Chicago Board of Trade
- Had our pictures taken with $1,000,000 at Federal Reserve Bank (uhm, my sister likes Money)
- Strolled through Millennium Park (where we took this backwards family portrait)
- Walked from one end of The Magnificent Mile to the other
- We saw the inner workings of the Michigan Avenue Draw Bridge
- Went to a Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert at Ravinia and sat on the grass
- Played 31 at Ravinia
- Continously got "shushed" at Ravinia
- Saw the worlds largest herd of privately owned Lipizzan Horses
- Drove out to the burbs
- Ate a 25 pound lasagna
- Saw people spinning fire in honor of the full moon
- Saw people beating on drums
- Went shopping at Target and Sam's Club
- Played LCR
- Played Chicken Foot and Mexican Train

We had a FABULOUS time and the weather was perfect unlike this week where it's hot, humid and humiliating to go out of doors!

I'm on Consumerist AGAIN!

But this time I'm bloody embarrassed.

I've been out of my normal routine of checking up on you people to see what you've been up to so my first day at work has been spent doing such (I mean I can't do that on my personal time, it just wouldn't be right.)

So I'm flipping through one of my most favorite sites (I mean besides yours - yours is always my favorite) The Consumerist where there's a post about a guy that ordered 2 Exxon Mobil Credit cards and got 2000 instead.

I thought the picture was funny so I clicked on the rest of the story to read along with the others...it wasn't until I looked closely at the picture and realized

OH SHIT - THAT'S ME!!!!

They've used my pictures several times before and I'm always grateful, but now I'm having second thoughts of it.

I guess since I posted a photo of myself looking stupified, this is what I get!

Fortunately looking through the comments no one was too totally mean to me and a few actually said the photo made them laugh.

Well, we can thank the Fabulous Andilicious as the reason for the photo.

Synphoria

How do you explain Synphoria?

Let's start at the beginning.

Last month I went to the Full Moon Jam which is held every month (that it's nice outside) to celebrate the Full Moon. Groups of people get together with their drums and their Poi and beat out a rhytmic dance while boys and girls twirl fire.

You can see pictures of the Full Moon Jam HERE

Then a friend of a friend said "Hey there's Synphoria going on, do you guys want to go?" Synphoria?!? WTF is Synphoria.

This is a quote from the invite:

In honor of the 40th Anniversary of THE SUMMER
F LOVE, Synphoria will be taking a (head)trip to
"Ravinia" to sit on the grass a watch a short set
by the master Indian sitarist RAVI SHANKAR!!

Then as I found out more about it, and it made even less sense to me. We had to wait two long weeks while the tension of what Synphoria actually was built in our imaginations.

Finally the night arrived and we soon arrived at the appointed address, which incidentally was only a few doors down from my prior address, we entered Onderland.

Synphoria is art on steroids, it was everything I couldn't even begin to imagine. Black lights & Curator Gloves. Surprises around every corner. Grass in the living room....not grass that you smoke, grass that you walk on.

The only way that I can really explain Synphoria is by showing you.

The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming

Oh wait, that's not right it should be "The Family is Coming! The Family is Coming!"

That's right The Family is coming for a visit. I've lived in Chicago for going on 7 years and this is the first time that they've visited. Now before you say anything bad, there is a reason.

When I used to live in Atlanta my parents would stop and visit at least twice a year - once on their way to Florida and then on the way home. But since I moved to the Midwest it's a lot more difficult to swing by and say "Hi" especially in the winter! I've been home plenty of times to see The Family but this is the first time they've been to my new digs.

The Roommate and I are very excited (he had the opportunity to meet my family a few years ago when we went home to PA to make a movie) about seeing The Family - including my sister! If you knew my Sister the way I knew my Sister you'd understand that.

I've got all sorts of things planned for their visit:
- A Tour of Downtown that will include the Sears Tower' Sky-Deck and a Double Decker Tour of the City
- A trip to Ravinia on Saturday night for an outdoor concert
- A trip "up north" to Tempel Farms to see the Lipizzans
- A trip to the shores of Lake Michigan to view the Full Moon Jam on Sunday night (check out the link for photos from when I went last, my Mom well get off on that)
- A huge Italian dinner cooked by the Roommate.

I'm sure we'll also do a lot of shopping, eating, drinking and playing games (I'm sure we'll play LCR and my parents will win big time).

They're flying in Thursday afternoon and I've already arranged a car to bring us back into the city. Since this is their first trip to Chicago I didn't want the first impression to be marred by my driving and screaming and yelling!

So what are you doing this weekend?

Thriller

Have you seen this yet?

You have to see this!

Check out this cool new dating site. I'm on it gettin some booty! lol

We're going down!

Down I tell ya!

Prez Bushy is having something stuck up his butt this Saturday and he's temporarily handing power over to The Veep.

I tell ya, something's gonna go down, I just know it!

So Bushy is getting a colonoscopy tomorrow I bet the whole reason he's against this whole Gay Marriage thing is because he probably enjoys it.

The funniest line in the whole article is:

He last underwent colorectal cancer surveillance on June 29, 2002.

Surveillance? I thought they called those procuedures 'a screening'

Oh wait....it's surveillance because they're looking for his head that he's had stuck up his ass for the last 6 years, now I get it.

Life is a Cabaret

One of the great things about living in the city is being able to enjoy all of the culture that surrounds us.

No, I'm not talking about the crazy people standing on the street corners yelling at you or the graffiti that litters the alleyways. I'm talking about the "real" cultural things in the city, like the Harold Washington Library

Where I got my first library card as an adult....hmmm...I guess having and using a Library Card are different aren't they?

But there are also a lot of other things in the city like The Taste of Chicago which is the countries Largest Food Event - you never know what you're going to get there, you could be like more than 500 people this year that were lucky enough to catch salmonella poisoning from a stand, but then again do you really catch salmonella like you do a baseball?

Or you have exciting events like Out At The Ball Game - which is basically Gay Day at Wrigley Field. Well almost Gay Day because we only have one small section of the park, but still it's Gay Day! I organized a big group of guys (36 of us) to go to the Game this year and we had a blast. Apparently we got our mugs in one of the local gay rags - I can only hope it was when we were sober. Please don't ask me anything about the game, all I know is that the Cubs were playing someone from out of town - that is my extent of Baseball Knowledge.

Although there are a few other things that I recently found out while I was at the park. There were three different types of hotdogs that they sold in the stands. $3.00 Standard Hotdogs, $3.50 Jumbo Hotdogs and $3.75 Kosher Hotdogs. But answer me this....why are the Kosher Hotdogs more, is it because they're Jewish?

One other disappointing thing I found out is that you almost always run out of Cheez before you run out of Nachos, why? I think there should be a guy walking around selling extra cheese, god knows I would have paid a buck for it!

One of the other great things about living in the City is "Movies in the Park" Chicago has a "big" Outdoor Film Festival that just started this last Tuesday with Young Frankenstein, but I'm not talking about that one....the one I'm talking about is the one where they come to the local parks and set up a big inflatable screen with speakers and let everyone sit on the grass and watch a movie.

Last night we had the pleasure of watching Cabaret while we sat on the grass (remind me next time I should take the Aerobed) wrapped in our blankets with the lake at our backs, the city skyline in front of us and the stars above us. In celebration of the indeterminable Liza Minelli I made sure that I had a nice strong cocktail with me and a few pills at my side just in case they were needed.

There was a small group of us that went over and enjoyed watching the movie and shouting out lines where we thought they would be most inappropriate. The best part was at the very end of the movie someone had a laser pointer and since the movie was shown with closed captioning it turned into a big Sing Along.

Life is a Cabaret old friend!

Enjoy it while you can, because you never know when it will be over.

Visionbuzz.com

Visionbuzz.com is a blog hijacker

I apologize for the drama I caused over the past week, I was just trying something new out and it went horribly horribly wrong!

Somehow I found this traffic builder site called Visionbuzz, it looked inocuous enough (don't they all), just add a widget and you'll get traffic.

Oh yeah, I got all sorts of traffic, but then I got all sorts of other problems as well like pages not loading, taking you to other pages while in the middle of reading my fabulous wonderful posts and all sorts of little nasties.

So I apologize if you had difficulty reading me as of late, I guess that'll teach me won't it?

What has the Fashion world become?

I was one of those gays that was born without the Fashion Gene. You know the one that lets me walk into my gorgeous 10 foot x 12 foot closet, snap my fingers and have a fabulous outfit just waiting for me.

No, I didn't get that gene....I got the Garanimals Fashion Gene that I will blame on growing up in the country and not knowing any better. But really, I'm terrible at putting things together, I think brown on tan looks good and I've been told many times that pleated pants are out, but I just don't get it - Yes I know pleated pants are out but they're pants...and they fit. You may recall a tale of my Gray Pants so as you can see I care very little about "fashion."

The other day we were at Sears and I saw a great pair of shorts....yes, I said Sears. Did you know that Sears now carries the Structure line....yeah the line that used to have it's own stores in the mall but went bankrupt and Sears bought them and now you can buy a cashmere sweater right next to your Tuffskins and Carhart - WOOF!

So, as I was saying, we were at Sears and I found this great pair of Madras Shorts, they looked plaid to me. They were my size, I thought they were cute and best of all they were on Sale.

Fast Forward to today - I'm going out to dinner....ah, it'll be a perfect time to wear my new shorts, they're hip and they're almost still in style so I'll sorta blend in.

I put the shorts on, button them up and go to put my money clip in my pocket.....and there's no pocket. Oh maybe it's swen up, you know like they do on a sports jacket, I mean after all this is Structure, it's a good line. I went to the bathroom to grab my pair of surgical scissors and looked....and there were no pockets at all.

Shorts.....with no front pockets?!? What the hell? Are all Madras shorts like that, or just the cheap ass ones that Sears is selling at a markup and then giving a discount on because they're Structure.

I can't believe that the next time I buy a pair of shorts I have to make sure it has front pockets.

WHAT HAS THE FASHION WORLD BECOME?

I think we can blame this on BRAVO and Tyra Banks

Friday's are the best

Because when I wake up in the morning I get to turn the alarm clock OFF instead of just reseting it for another early morning wakeup.

So do you have big plans for the weekend? It's supposed to rain tomorrow - which I hope is a big fat lie!

Sunday afternoon there's a group of us going to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs beat the pants off of the Houston Astros - oh how we're hoping they do literally beat the pants off of them, how hot would that be?

I'm sure that you're worried for me, especially since on the latest episode of The Loopy Fruit Audio Network we were out at the Softball fields cheering on The Roommate and his team and now I'm going to another sporting event on my own volition, but don't worry, I'm not turning Straight...and I'm not turning into one of those gay boys that likes sports. Sometimes schedules just work out that way is all I can say.

For the last several years one of the local gay rags - The Chicago Free Press - has been sponsoring "Out At The Ballgame" which is basically "Gay Day at Wrigley Field" They buy a whole section of tickets and work with the organizers at Wrigley Field to bring in top shelf liquor drinks and hot hunky hot dog salesmen that may accidentally slip you their weiner instead of a weiner.

I love going to Wrigley Field, even though I have no idea what is going on during the game but it's a blast to eat peanuts and throw the shells on the ground, drink beer and see how many hot dogs you can eat in a 3-hour period. Of course drinking all that beer does force one to use the facilities and I can't do that at Wrigley becuase they don't have urinals.....they have the dreaded "Man Trough" Some boys enjoy that, but I'm incredibly pee shy and don't even suggest the stalls because men are GNASTY! The stalls are disgustingly dirty and gross and you end up having to flush with your foot, which is totally gross. But hey there's at least a lot of cute boys at Wrigley to watch.

A group of us went two years ago and unfortunately we missed it last year, but This Year - we're back with a vengence!

I started early this year organizing a group of girls to go and boy was I overwhelmed, there's a whopping 36 of us going! We have 4 rows in the stadium all to ourselves (well we might have to share some of those seats) it's gonna be a rauckus group of boys that's for sure.

Amber is going to be performing the National Anthem and during the Seventh Inning Stretch they always wake the crowd up with a rousing performance of "Take me out to the ballgame" The last time I was at a Cubs game Vince Vaughn sang it, I wonder who it will be this year.

So look forward to lots of pictures of drunk straight boys and some drunk gay boys!

What are you doing this weekend?

Softballs & Microphones

Guess what I did over the weekend?

Yes, I got drunk. No, I made it home ok. I don't remember doing that, but if you say so.

No, I met up with those fabulous Loopy Fruit boys David & Raul of The Loopy Fruit Audio Network.

The Roommate was playing a few games of softball and since he was on the show a few weeks ago the boys promised to come out and support him at a game. Just my luck it was the week they asked me to do another guest appearance on their show.

We met up at the local softball fields and set up a table and umbrella threw our microphones on and recorded a little episode.

We talk about everything from Softball to sports in general to movies to Disneyworld. I think I even gave a secret away - but you'll have to listen to learn.

So check out Episode #36 - Tales from the Ball Park

If you're so intrigued you can check out my first appearance on Episode #25 - The Grocery Cast

Fast Typers

When I type I pay more attention to the screen than I do my hands, do you?

When I was a Senior in High School, shh that was 20 years ago, I didn't want to take Advanced Biology. Basically because I knew that two of the projects were disceting a frog and collecting bugs, uhm, no thanks. So instead of Advanced Biology I took Office Practice.

I loved Office Practice - little did I know how handy it would come into use in my future. Office Practice was just what it said it was "Office Practice" It was sort of like playing school when you weren't in school.

We did all of the officey things, like filing. We carried around a little file box that had like 100 letters in it and every week we had to re-file the letters, alphaettically, by date, by senders name, by addressee, etc. Hell I'm GREAT at filing now! Although now that I think about it, carrying a little file box around for 2 months was a lot dorkier than carrying around bugs mounted on a piece of styrofoam.

We also learned Key-Punch - I'm sad to say that I have never had to use this skill. But 10-Key I use all the time. I can add up a row of numbers faster than it takes a stripper to get out of her thong.

And of course we also learned how to type. I remember my mother telling me tales of when she was in High School and had to type on a manual machine and she typed 45 wpm, I was amazed. She also told me stories of how they would ride around on the typewriter cart and one time they actually went through a partition into another classroom. Now that's fun...you can't do that with a PDA can you?

I'm a great typer, it's ok, I can admit it. I can type about 50 wpm and it always seems to amaze people.....I mean it's typing....when you do something every day you sorta get better at it.

I don't think that I've looked at my hands when I type for years because I know where all of the keys are whenever I need them.

I can even type numbers but a lot of time I may have to glance to confirm, but that's what the backspace key is for right? I know exactly where that one is. The one set of keys that I do need to cheat with are the shift keys on the numbers...I just don't remember where they all are.

For example, I remember that the dollar sign $ is on SFT+4, and the Hash sign # is at SFT+3, the @ sign is easy, especially with email nowadays. I also know where the ( and the ) but the ^ I can never remember because how often do you use that? As well as the % sign and the !!!! although I do use that one all the time. And what about the ~ all the way over there where you never reach. It's just far enough that you forget about it, plus who really uses the ~ when it isn't over a letter?!? Oh yeah, I know where the ? is, because I ask too many questions.

Do you know where all of your keys are?

But soon I was back on track and looking at eBay.

As I quickly as I was able to pull up eBay and typed in "beanie babies" my dreams were shattered. As the page started to fill in I saw miserably low numbers.

Damn you 10MPBS High Speed Broadband Connection.....faster damn it, FASTER! I felt like Elizabeth Taylor standing in front of the Microwave yelling at her popcorn to "Pop faster damn it, pop faster!"

The numbers were not good. I had been hoping to see prices like $19.99 or $15.99....but instead I saw scary numbers like $0.99 and $0.01. Were my eyes deceiving me once again today?

As quickly as I had built up my dreams they vanished like a puff of smoke. My yacht vanished - POOF. My dreams of afternoons being served champagne as we cruised Lake Michigan were thrown overboard before my very eyes - POOF

I was quickly put back on earth as the phone rang and brought me back to my senses. As I reached for the phone a tear fell from my eye and landed on the back of my hand it was all so sad and real.

Damn you to hell Beanie Babies, Damn you to hell!

The Week from Hell

Having a Federal Holiday in the middle of the week sucks!!!

Yeah that's right, I said a paid holiday sucks.

I mean in the grand scheme of it all, it wasn't that bad but think about it.

You work on Monday and then Tuesday is just like a Friday.

But then on Tuesday night you go downtown and take a cruise out on the lake with your friends to watch the fireworks from the water and don't get home until 1:00 am.

So still, not too bad, because you don't have to wake up early the next morning but it is a Holiday anyways so you want to have friends over for a cookout.

That cookout involves all sorts of Forced Housecleaning and Forced Food Preparation, that you really couldn't prep for because you had to work two days before the party.

So then you have the cookout and you kick your friends out early because after all it is a "School Night" and you have to get up early and go back to work.

Thursday seems like a Monday but at least you know that tomorrow REALLY is Friday but mentally you're still half asleep because you just crammed a whole weekend into a period of about 24 hours.

Friday comes and because you weren't clever enough to schedule your vacation correctly you're stuck sitting at your desk doing nothing because all of the people that you work with were smarter than you and decided to take vacation.

But at least it's Friday and I was able to turn off my alarm clock this morning....two days of sleeping late, that can't be a bad thing.

I mean geez, if Prez Bush can Pardon (and you know he will) his old buddy Scooter (btw, what kind of adult goes by the name Scooter?) couldn't he make the Holiday fall on a Monday or a Friday.

So now there's only one more Holiday and then Summer is officially over.

I met another Blogger

Well actually I met a Couple o'Bloggers. Drew and Felicity of My Life As A Clown.

As the title of their blog says - they're a couple of clowns - no not like me, they're actually professional clowns - how cool is that.

I was walking down by the lake last night when I saw this couple and said "Wow, they look really familiar?" and then all of a sudden they did some acrobatic thing and I was like "I know exactly who they are!"

So I accosted them in the middle of their practice and introduced myself. We exchanged pleasantries for a few minutes and then I let them get back to their practice.

It's always so weird to meet a blogger in the wild because you know so much about them....but you feel dirty about it for some reason or other?

So I start laying them out in a single layer on the table and cover almost the entire table with still more Beanie Babies in the pile to sort. I pushed them all closer together and continued to count.

Fifty, Seventy-Five, One Hundred, oh my god! One Hundred! One hundred and ten, One hundred and twenty-five, were there really that many in there?

Beanies we displayed as far as the eye could see.

I couldn't believe it, there were One Hundred and Twenty Five UNIQUE Beanie Babies, all with their tags on and all in perfect condition since they've been living in our garage in this big plastic treasure chest.

My dreams were about to be fulfilled. But I have to do some homework first! Let's check out eBay before I go any further in this endeavor.

But I need to wait, becuase today of all days, when I went to pick up my bottle of Xanax - it was empty. Damn you insomnia! Now I've got to put in a rush order at the Pharmacy.

Knocked Up

During an outing at a local watering hole this weekend a guy told me that they had just seen that new movie Knocked Up and he really enjoyed it.

He then continued to say that "Yeah when I first saw you I thought 'Wow, he looks a lot like that hot guy from the movie.'"

Of course I was flattered and didn't bother to ask WHICH actor he thought I looked like, it could have been because there's like three actors that I could think of immediately (even though I hadn't seen the movie), could it be:

Paul Rudd - I was hoping it was him he was referring to.

Jason Segel - hmmm...I don't think so.....

But I think he meant, Seth Rogen
I kinda sorta see it, but my hair is NO WHERE as big as his.

When I was in High School, I thought I bore a very strong resemblance to Albert of Little House in the Praire fame, especially when he was in that movie Deadly Friend, when I saw that movie I could have sworn that was me on that screen with the big hair.

All I can say is "Thank God I don't have Big Hair anymore!"

Since we were on a "What Star do you look like" kick, I told this guy that he looked exactly like the guy that Charlotte was dating on Sex in the City in Season 6.

because I thought he (both the guy I was talking with and the actor) was cute and it would be flattering. The guy looked at me and said "Do you mean Harry? That bald Jewish guy? He's fucking ugly."

I never was any good at that game!

What famous person do you look like?

A Dream Destroyed - Part III

I couldn't wait to finish cleaning the garage, because I knew a much bigger task was ahead of me. Beanie Babies are huge...I mean aren't Beanie Babies the "IT" item that made eBay what it is today?

There's a fortune here. I'll sell these on eBay and make a killing. I can retire if I do this right. I can tell the man where to go, what train to take out of town, what bus route doesn't stop at the office, I can quit my job!

As I threw the Beanie Babies out of the treasure chest and onto the table a golden pyramid grew before my eyes. A pyramid of Beanie Babies. The dollar signs started twirling around in my eyes, just like Scrooge McDucks did in the comic books..

"It's too good to be true," I kept telling myself in a half-hearted attempt to reassure myself. There must be thousands of Beanie Babies here, or at least a few hundred.

What's that? Are those Beanie Babies in their original unopened cardboard containers? I think it is!

Oh my, I've got to sit down and catch my breath.

No my eyes were not deceiving me, they were genuine Beanie Babies - millions of them.

I quickly pulled it to the side and said "Uhm, that's going in the house, ok?"

Who owns whom?

I won't say I'm a cat person....I won't say I'm a dog person.....I won't say I'm a kid person.

But the one thing that all these have in common is that I do like them, for short periods of time, and I enjoy them even more when I'm standing at my front door waving good bye.

Now don't get me wrong, growing up on a farm we always had pets. We had a dogthat lived in the house with us, his name was Hair and a few dogs that didn't, one was named Mutch and one was named Red (it was a Redbone - how original). We had cats, they never lived in the house but they would come and go. My favorite kitty was Motor (again how original), boy could that cat purr!

I never owned gerbils or ferrets or mice or snakes, although we did have chickens, pigs and cows. My sister always made the mistake of treating the cows like pets and then when we slaughtered them she would suddenly become a vegetarian until she really wanted a steak!

As an adult, I used to own two Cats. When I lived in Columbus, OH (eons ago) we were at the Kroger where a man was sitting in front of the store with a box of kittens. My then boyfriend looked at the kittens and then looked at me and then back at the kittens. Needless to say, we walked out of the Jewel with a bag of kitty litter and a helion we named Alex.

That cat was posessed by the Devil I tell you. He was about 8 weeks old, freshly weaned, when we got him and he was so tiny and cute, just a bundle of fur......with CLAWS! I would pet him and he would sink his teeth into the flesh of my hand between my thumb and fingers! About a year later we decided that Alex needed a playmate so we went to the Shelter to find a friend for him.

We happened upon a grey tiger kitty that had just been dropped off that morning, when I picked her up to say hello she promptly batted me across the face with her paw - we named her Zsa Zsa Gabor!

Alex & Zsa Zsa lived the high life, laying on counters, hiding behind things and jumping out at you, chasing each other around the house. They even moved with me to Atlanta and enjoyed drinking Sweet Tea and never seeing snow again. But then.....my room-mate got hooked on Crystal Meth and moved out of the apartment leaving me stuck with finding a new roommate. I had a good friend that was looking for a place to live, but was allergic to kitties, it was a sad day but I decided that roommates that pay rent supersede kitties.

Now don't think I'm cruel and heartless, I'm not. We found them a beautiful place to live in the country on a farm. Literally a farm, not "The Farm" The last I heard they were still frolicking around enjoying living the outdoor life chasing birds, squirrels and mice.

I haven't owned pets since then......that is until I moved in with the current Roommate. He has a dog a Shiba Inu who is the biggest princess in the world. The Roommate has had him since a puppy and wow is that dog loyal to him. This dog and I share an apartment but that's about it. If you ever see the interaction between the two of us, it's like we don't even exist in each other's world.

When we come home from work, I'll walk in the door first and shout out for the dog "I'm home" at which point he comes running up to me.....and then goes right past me......to find The Roommate. If The Roommate isn't with me then The Dog will just look at me and then go back to whichever couch he was sitting on before I interrupted him. Another example is walks - I'll take him for walks, but he doesn't like me to talk him for walks. When he and The Roommate walk out of the house he barks up and down and runs to the end of the yard to scare off any would be predators that might be lurking around the corner. When I do the same thing he meanders out the door, snifs some flowers, eats some grass and then looks at me and says "Come on let's get this over with."

Persnickity dog, he's just like a Cat!

Oh yeah, the real reason for the post. Have you ever been to Cats In Sinks? It's hilarious, you really should check it out.

So what kind of pets do you have?

I've been Tagged

And not tag teamed like the way it should be!

Canadian Swiss that devlish little creature tagged me with a meme...in fact I can't remember the last time I actually did a meme.

So here goes:

6 Weird things I do while getting ready to sleep or while sleeping:

1. I must fall asleep with the television on. I typically get to watch about the first 15 minutes or so of David Letterman - hopefully up to the Top 10 list before I pass out. I put the timer on the TV and blissfully fade away into oblivion hoping that I'll wake the following morning.

2. I must sleep with a fan or some other kind of white noise maker. Only because I live within 50 feet of the El it runs 24 hours a day and makes quite a ruckus at 2:00 am when shuttling people to and fro.

3. I must be in a certain position to fall asleep. On my left side, with my right leg bended up and over so that my thigh is parallel to the bottom of the bed. If I try to lay any other way to fall asleep it just doesn't happen.

4. I have been known to answer the phone while sleeping and carry on a conversation. Albeit not a very coherent conversation but a conversation none the less. One time a friend called me and said "What was up with you last night when we talked, you were so weird?" I was sleeping was my only response.

5. Now that I'm an old man, I have to get up in the middle of the night and pee, so I always try to limit my intake of booze...er liquids in the evening so I can "hold it" until morning.

6. I have been told that I snore, but since I can't hear it, I don't believe it.

Whew...that wasn't that hard was it? Now it's my turn to make a few tags....hmmmm.....hmmmm..... let's see. Red Rover Red Rover let's call out:

- The Big Finn - because I don't think he does meme's
- Andrea - becuase she hasn't posted in forever and a day
- Ms Mac - because she's missing children and needs something to occupy her time.

I'm in Business

Well it's official....I'm now a professionally paid photographer. Someone bought some of my pictures!

There's been so much going on here lately that it's been difficult keeping things in perspective, but one of the things I've been working on is a side business.

Last year I was at one of Chicago's many street festivals when this girl approached me and a friend and asked if she could take our picture. She snapped and then handed us a business card directing us to a website where we could view our picture and buy it if we liked it.

Well it was such a great concept for a business that I've been working for over a year now to start one of my own....and I'm very happy to say that I DID IT!!!!!!

So now, I travel around to the festivals here in Chicago (honestly there are tons of them - just this past weekend I did 4 events and could have done two more if I had the time and or energy) in my blue shirt and throw my fancy camera in people's faces and ask if I can take their pictures.

I try to look as "official" as I can without coming out and saying that I'm actually affiliated with the event I'm photographing....but if someone asks me I come outright and tell them who I am. I have a shirt with my name on the front and "Event Photographer" on the back and I have professionally printed business cards that I hand out to everyone whom I snap a picture of.

This past weekend was Gay Pride in Chicago (as well as a host of other cities) and I had a blast running up and down the street taking pictures of people enjoying themselves at the parade.

So now that the "hard" part of getting everything up and running is out of the way, hopefully I'll have a bit more time to pay attention to this here blog.

If you'd like to check out the pictures from Chicago's Pride Parade you can find them here at:

Get Around - Chicago

Oh yeah if you're a photographer in Chicago and have a nice DSLR who enjoys going to festivals and taking pictures of people, let me know - you could be making some extra money.

Oh yeah and if you're somewhere else in the world with lots of festivals - we should talk!

I made it on Consumerist! (Again)

Folks, I can't tell you how much "tags" work in Flickr.

I was running through one of my favorite sites this afternoon when there was a post about a Computer Glitch at O'Hare Airport that caused a huge snarl.

As I was reading the article, I said "Wow that picture looks familiar" and lo and behold there at the bottom of the article was a reference to me.

I recently took this picture when we went to Atlanta to visit a friend of mine who is recovering from brain surgery.

So keep snapping pictures, posting and putting tags on them folks you'll never know where they'll end up.

Maybe if you're lucky like Ms. Mac your bed will show up somewhere?!? Hmmmmm

We All Scream

Have you ever had homemade ice cream?

Up until this weekend, I had thought that everyone had at least tasted homemade ice cream. When I was growing up we never had a lot, but we always had a lot - if you know what I mean. And one of those things we had a lot of was homemade ice cream. Every winter we would make homemade ice cream at least 2 or three times, and it was always a big affair with lots of people around to share it. I was asking some of my friends if they ever had homemade ice cream and I was astonished to hear that almost none of them had! How could that be?

Near where we lived growing up, were these "cliffs" near the road and in the winter they would always "ice up" and make these huge icicles, more like spears that could kill you. We would go to the cliffs with a burlap bag and harvest ice to make ice cream with. To this day, whenever we pass by there and see ice we always say "Ohhh...there's ice cream"

Now that I think about it.....We used to make ice cream a lot. There were lots of times when we used fresh whole milk to make ice cream, oh the taste.....there's nothing like it. There really isn't.

This past weekend The Roomate and I were at the Red Dot Boutique when I spied with my own little eyes an ice cream maker. It was so cute and tiny, it looked like the E-Z Bake Oven version of the one we had when I was a kid. This one even had an electric motor on it instead of a hand crank - ooohhhh fancy! I grabbed it faster than I grabbed Barbie's Dream House and threw it in the cart.

Sunday afternoon I ran to our local grocery store and picked the freshest of ingredients - cream, heavy cream, whipping cream and strawberries, all to create a most delicious potion!

It was much easier than I remember and a whole lot warmer. Since we only made ice cream in the winter all I remember as a kid was running to check and see it was done and then flying back to the house to warm up, of course with a hand crank ice cream maker we kept ourselves warm by cranking.

Within an hour I had freshly churned ice cream, and I couldn't wait for the first taste. There are only a few things that are "the best" on the first taste.

For example, beer. I like beer but it's not my first choice of drink, but sometimes the first drink of beer is just delicious. If it's hot outside, and I'm hot and the beer is ICE COLD then the first swig is the BEST drink ever you feel like you've died and gone to heaven....but only on that first swig, after that it's all downhill.

Ice Cream is the same way, but oh so much better. There is NOTHING like the first spoonful of ice cream after it's finished. It's smooth and creamy, frozen but not frozen solid. And strawberry ice cream at that!

I wish you could have sat on our back porch and had a bowl with me, I'm sure you would have enjoyed it as much as I did.

I'll let you know the next time I'm making it, so you can stop by.

Where are the Fucking Cicadas?

If you don't live in the Chicago area you can just press the next button to go to the next blog.

But if you do live in Chicago....have you seen and/or heard any Cicadas?

At the end of May we were inundated with stories in the Newspapers and the TV News people telling us that we were going to be overcome with the onslaught of the 17 year Cicadas. That our dogs would eat them, but live, that they would overpower any outside gatherings with their loud hummings and strummings.

But as of today - June 15, 2007 I have not seen a god damn cicada, and I'm a little miffed about it?

I mean come on people, you warned us and nothing happened, do you think I'm really going to believe you next time? I'm just so glad that I didn't invest in that banner that said "Welcome Cicadas" and that frozen Margarita machine to make Cicadagaritas.

Although someone did tell me that it has been a little crazy in the suburbs but in the city where there isn't a lot of undisturbed ground that there haven't been a lot of sightings.

Have you seen the Cicadas?

It's just not the same

You know some things just aren't the same as they used to be are they?

I've finally decided that I NEED to lose weight, not a lot of weight, probably just about 20 pounds - no more than that, I'll be a skeleton for god's sake! At this same time The Roomate has decided to quit smoking.

So to celebrate our both quitting something (well I'm quitting eating as much) I walked to the Dominick's to get us some sugar free popsicles and yogurt (I never ate yogurt before but now I'm addicted to it).

While I was looking for our treats I saw that right next to it were sugar free Dreamsicles and Fudgesicles - maybe this dieting thing won't be so bad after all?

I quickly ran home because the last thing I wanted to happen was have my fudgsicles melt on the trip to show The Roommate what I had found.

He was as surprised as I was, sugar free dreamsicles - how fabulous!

I put them in the freezer for the customary 15 minute hardening time and then we dug in.

Well let's just say, Sugar Free Dreamsicles and Fudgsicles sure sound a lot better than they really are, it's just not the same without sugar.

Maybe this dieting thing is gonna be hard....oh god forbid I hope I don't have to join the gym!

The Test of All Test

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more logical than emotional, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more loner than dependent, more lazy than workaholic, more rebel than traditional, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more extroverted than introverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are outgoing (100%), adventurous (88%), slutty (71%), innovative (57%).

Stereotypes
Old Geezer100%
Prep77%
Emo Kid56%

Life Experience
Sex71%
Substances38%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Libertarian, whom you agree with around 68% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Middle Class. You make more than 100% of those who have taken this test, and 93% more than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated NC-17.
By the way, your hottness rank is 67%, hotter than 73% of other test takers.

Paris Hilton out of jail already?!?

I'm so confused? It's only Thursday, she's been in the clinker for 4 days now. I thought she was supposed to be there for 40 days? I guess someone must have erased that 0 there at the end.

Why oh why is this such important news that it warrants the local channels breaking into the middle of Judge Mathis and Live with Regis & Kelly? And then when the shows come back on its with that dreaded message "We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress." Well of course it's in progress you fuckers, now I'll never know if that bitch was lying when she said she had the receipt but lost it when her car was stolen, that was MUCH more important than Paris.

Why is it that Anna Nicole died, I got 14 text messages telling me that she was dead? And now that Paris is out of jail I've alredy received 3 text messages and 5 emails.

It's freakin' Paris Hilton....did you really think that she was going to spend the WHOLE time in jail?

What the World Eats

Time Magazine did this recent article showing the food that typical families around the world eat in a weeks time.

It's amazing to look at the disparity of food that people eat and the amount of money they spend on food. Of course, we Americans are shown over indulging like we do in EVERYTHING!

Oh Muriel....you're terrible!

I have been terrible haven't I?

I apologize...there has been a lot going on, but then isn't that always the excuse? But REALLY, there has been a whole lot of changes going on over the last few weeks and it's just been wearing me down.

I promise that I will do better at posting and being happy about it, but latey I've not been in that mood. Like the changing of the seasons, this too shall pass I'm sure.

So with my promise to post more, I give you Part II of the long lost adventures of a Boy on his way to Ohio to meet up with blogger friends.

Megabus - Part II

We continue our story about our Megabus Adventure aka as "how a city girl finds himself on a big charter bus driving through the outlands of the United States."

To catch the first part of the Adventure check HERE

As you recall, our heroine (that would be me) had arrived at the appointed location outside Chicago's Union Station to find The Megabus and had already scoped out the perfect seat.

When people would ask me what I was doing for the weekend I would say "I'm taking the bus to Cleveland." At first I would get a blank stare which turned into a quizzical look and then morphed into laughter. Invariably, the next question out of their mouths was - "WHY?"

Well, why not!

Andi and I had been talking about Megabus for quite sometime and I had been quite intrigued about the whole concept of a bus ride that only costs $1.00 (+ $0.50 transaction fee) and I wanted to see what it was all about.

I really wasn’t too concerned about the bus….Megabus is owned by a British company and I was going to see my British friend and the British have always treated us American’s well, so I figured I had nothing to worry about….hmmmmm……maybe they’ll serve tea and biscuits?

The thing I was more concerned about was, well how do I put this gently……..my fellow passengers, I mean come on…it’s a $1.50 to go halfway across the country, who else (besides me) buys a dollar bus tickets?

While we were standing on the sidewalk (uhm, that's why the ticket was only a dollar), I looked at all the people standing with me, it hadn't hit me until then, but what if someone was actually going to sit next to me. I hadn’t really thought that there might be someone sitting next to me, well I guess I had thought a little bit about it but it involved this hot frat boy that was going to Cleveland to see his girlfriend and got a call halfway through the ride from his girlfriend telling him that she was breaking up with him and he needed a shoulder to cry on.....ok, back on track, I mean other than that I really hadn’t seriously thought that I would have to share THAT much space with someone else for 6 hours.

Fortunately, we were only at about ½ capacity, I think there were only 4 people that sat together and that was because they were traveling together, everyone else on the bus got to have two seats all to themselves.

Once I got settled I got my travel things in order: a book, a Sudoku book that The Boyfriend bought for me, some trail mix and my bottle of…..wait, where’s my water? Didn’t I buy a bottle of water? Oh fuck…I forgot to buy a bottle of water…..there is no way in hell I’m drinking the water in the bathroom – I’ve seen Dateline, thank you very much! Shit, I remembered everything except a bottle of water, I hope I didn’t get thirsty on the way, well at least now I wouldn’t have to worry about using the onboard facilities.

The seats were very comfortable, there was even a foot rest, which was amazing, why don’t they put foot rests on airplanes….oh they do, it’s called Business Class International Air Travel. I got everything settled and was ready to begin the adventure, but I still had my Xanax at close hand just in case things became too unbearable to handle.

Before I knew it the bus was pulling out and joining the Friday afternoon rush to get out of the city.

There was one big advantage to riding in a bus that I hadn't thought about - truckdrivers!

Flo is Famous!

It's official!

Flo is famous.....her manager has been working hard to get her back on the Showtune Circuit and it's starting to pay off.

Recently Flo was featured changing a tire on car, and that picture was picked up by The Consumerist to compliment a story they were posting about the ravages of not having enough air pressure in your tires.

You can read all about it and see Flo's fabulous face HERE Way To Go Flo!
